Day 4

July 5th

Good morning Munnar
At around 5:30 AM Aayush woke me up to check the outsides. At the break of dawn, I saw clouds pushing there way inside through the bus window. We had finally left the coastal Kerala and started ascending on the beautiful Western Ghats through the winding roads to perhaps a fairytale destination. It was drizzling on and off. And finally we reached Munnar at dot 5:55 AM, 5 minutes before the ALL INDIA CLOSE duration would start.

Guest house at Munnar

We were fortunate to have found a nice small cottage for the 4 of us(it was damn cheap)even on Hartaal day. After a little rest, we set off to explore Munnar.

We casually climbed into a tea estate

Tea Estates
The weather(with slight drizzle every now and then) was awsome and the the hill station was deserted due to the Hartaal. After an awsome Munnar special tea with toast we set off on foot in Ernakulam direction. Exploring through the tea estates all along we checked out few famous toursist spots and continued moving.

Attakadu Falls
After walking and enjoying nature at its best for several KMs we spotted a waterfall in the distance and decided to reach there by the unconventional route through the tea estates
When we finally reached the falls

Having maggie at the shack next to that waterfall

4 idiots

In our quest to reach this waterfall we had walked about 9 kms from Munnar and now getting back to our guest house seemed like an arduous task. We climbed back to the nearest main road and then requested an autowala to give us lift until the main town.

An evening in Munnar
By evening the Hartaal got over and the town had started opening up. We spend the evening in Munnar simply exploring the markets, buying tea, choccolates, eating local delicacies and enjoying the Monsoon chill in the weather.

After getting back to our cosy little cottage we did what we were best at. Fighting for the premium space on the double bed while watching some stupid bollywood movie on the Television. The day had been extremely satisfactory. We enjoyed raw nature at its best.

In Retrospect
Just 24 hours back the 4 of us were lying on the floor of a bus stand in Kothamangalam waiting for a 3 AM bus , empty stomach, worried about hartaal, uncertain about what will happen the next day and here after 24 hours we were again sleeping peacefully in a small cottage, in the beautiful Munnar. God had been gracious!!!!!

But did we know what was in store the following day ?? No, we had no clue!!!!!!!
