Day 5

July 6th

Monsoon Kerala
I had a peaceful sleep, though there was much space crunch. With Aayush on one side and Bisen on the other, I was crushed badly. After taking bath, we packed and left our cottage. The view outside was awesome. Kerala is indeed God's own Country and perhaps monsoon is the best time to experience that. By now the cottage manager started appreciating our backpacker trips and so he helped us in arranging a taxi that would take us to all the far off places around Munnar, at a very reasonable price.

Confusion & Solution
Today we were confused between the two options : visit Anai Mudi (Western ghats highest peak in the Eravikulam National park) or  move in the direction of Top Station - 32 kms from Munnar(this direction had more tourist places). Finally we opted for the latter.  Mattupetty dam, Photo point, Echo point, Elephant arrival spot, Kundala lake, etc were the places we visited.

Kodaikanaal (Tamil Nadu)
We had a good time, exploring the nearby places. In about 3-4 hours we got back to Munnar, had our lunch and started planning on how to reach our next stop - Queen of Hill stations - Kodaikanal (in Tamil Nadu). Though on the map, Munnar and Kodaikanal appear to be close by but in reality one has to take a highly torturous 7-10 hour circuitous route via Theni because the old route between the 2 places (that was used during the time of British) is now part of a National park and hence is closed to any traffic.

Awsome views

Munnar to Theni route was just amazing with some awsome views on the way.

Raavanan @ Theni
By 9 PM we reached Theni and found that the next bus to Kodaikanal would leave only next morning at 4 AM. It was after a long time that we had come to a city. So after dinner, Bisen and Apurv left to carry out work internet, Aayush went to explore the city and get his medication whereas I went to watch the night show of Tamil movie Raavanan (in an attempt to revise the places shown in that film because after Kodaikanal, visiting Raavan's shooting sites was next in our agenda)

Night @ the Bus-stand
After the movie, I came back to the bus stand at around 1 AM  and found everybody sleeping comfortably on rented mats over the bus stand floor. I too got my mat (for just Rs 5 per night), applied Odomos and slept near them thinking about the cosy bed of previous night at Munnar's cottage.
